Voters'
roll in a mess despite election call
Despite calls
by Zanu PF leader that elections to replace the ailing inclusive
government will be held next year, a glance at the country's
voters roll is a cause for concern reigniting calls for a fresh
electorate list.
Zimbabwe has
the highest proportion of elderly voters in the world, according
to the voters' roll that was used for the harmonised
elections in 2008.
Zanu PF has
in the past manipulated the voters' roll to such an extent
that some people who are long dead have been able to cast ballots
from the grave and Mugabe has succeeded to do so because it is in
shambles and he simply takes advantage of the confusion.
Before the last
elections, in 2005, the MDC was able to get hold CDs of the voters'
rolls for 12 constituencies, subjected them to digital analysis
and found that 45 percent of the names on the list were false. Since
then Tobaiwa Mudede, the Registrar-General, has kept a tight lid
on the roll.
