7 released told not to die in the road again - 10 appear in court

Seven members arrested for their die-in in the streets of city centre of Bulawayo today have been released. Officer in charge, Chief Inspector Rangwari said they should not be detained as they had not caused any damage and told them not to 'Die' in the road again. Two members of the Main Street protest were slightly injured when the driver of a Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Company truck purposefully drove over them, laughing as he did so.

Court Appearance for 7 February Protest The 'Shosholoza 10' members of Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) will appear in Bulawayo Tredgold Magistrates Court One at 8:30 am on 20 June 2012. They were to face trial but their lawyer Lizwe Jamela has applied for the Magistrate to allow a Supreme Court challenge. Magistrate Vivian Dube The ruling as to referral to the Supreme Court was to have been delivered end of March but has been postponed several times.

Applicants in this matter has been charged with contravening section 46 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act: Chapter 9.23 as read with section (2) (v) of the third schedule. The state alleges that on 7 February 2012, the Applicants with intent to cause public disorder displayed some placards and distributed fliers along Leopold Takawira/9th Avenue Bulawayo thereby disturbing the free flow of both human and vehicle traffic.

The Magistrate is also expected to provide feedback on the visit to Bulawayo Central Police station to inspect the conditions under which the members were kept. The Magistrate had directed the Officer in charge of Bulawayo to respond to allegations of inhuman conditions and when this had not been done ordered an inspection.

The members names are Jennifer Williams, Sikhangezile Ndlovu, Silibaziso Nzima, Wendy Moyo, Nothando Tshembe, Priscilla Ncube, Thabitha Ndlovu, Sitshiyiwe Ngwenya, Kholwani Ndlovu (Male) and Faina Maphosa.

19 June 2012 Ends Note: Shosholoza for love was the theme under which WOZA members marched on 7 February 2012. Shosholoza is a word which means 'push with pressure' a term used to describe WOZA's marching mandate.
