My Thoughts
Welcome to this
week's edition of the WCoZ weekly bulletin. In this issue
we take a look at the events that took place within our membership
during the past week. The major highlights of this week's
edition are the Bulawayo Leadership and Governance training that
successfully took place in Bulawayo on the 3rd of August 2011 and
the newly appointed Chapter Committee in Bulawayo, so put your feet
up and enjoy our last week at a glance.
Mildred
Sandi elected as the Chairperson for the WCoZ Bulawayo Chapter
The founder
member and CEO for Diana Phalala Foundation also known as DP Foundation
is the newly elected Bulawayo Chapter Chairperson. Speaking at after
the elections, the WCoZ National Coordinator Netsai Mushonga congratulated
Ms Mildred Sandi and pledged to support the new committee.
"The Secretariat
is committed to work together with the new committee on the women's
agenda" she pointed out after congratulating the chairperson
and her committee.
The new chairperson
asked God to chart the plan for the committee and committed to work
together with the other committee members and work hard to ensure
that women enjoy their rights.
The elections
were conducted and presided by two neutral election officers Mrs
Mashangwa , Mrs Ncube and the elections were attended by 50 participants
drawn from organisations in Bulwayo.
The full committee members are:

Secretary - Mabel Moyo - Jekesa Pfungwa
Vice Secretary - Sipho Nsimbi
Widows and Single Parents Treasurer - Edina Mhlanga - YWCA
Committee Members - Fadzai Mundoza (ZWIDE) and Mrs Njini Ebilayo
Bulawayo
Organisations receive training in Leadership and Governance
Sixty four directors
and board members of women's non-governmental organisations
in Bulawayo were trained in leadership and governance through one
of WCoZ Capacity Strengthening initiatives on the 3rd of August
2011.
Facilitated
by Thembi Mpofu, the objective of the workshop was to share best
practices in governance and human resources issues in organsations
and sharing common issues and problems. The workshop's agenda
was to structure and role of the board (providing strategic direction
to the organization); principles of Cooperate Governance (leadership,
board appointment, compliance, accountability etc) and common governance
issues such ineffectiveness and incompetency.
As way forward,
the Jekesa Pfungwa Vulinqondo Director Mrs Mabel Moyo thanked WCoZ
for affording the Bulawayo women's NGOs the opportunity to
be trained in leadership and governance and looked forward to many
more trainings in the province from WCoZ.
Peace
Building Project Update
The WCoZ Bindura
and Gweru Chapters fruitfully convened consultative meetings with
the Members of Parliament from the Mashonaland Central Province
and Midlands Provinces respectively on engaging women in peacebuilding
processes on the 5th of August 2011.
