Celebrating
100 years of women achievements
Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD)
March 11, 2011
Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development rallies behind
the International Women Day and celebrates 100 years of political,
economic and social achievements.
The International
Women Day was propounded by Clara Zetkins (Germany) in 1910 and
the first celebrations were held on the 19 March 1911 Austria, Switzerland
and other European countries.
COTRAD feels
that great strides have been made in Zimbabwe but there is still
need to bridge the gap between rural women and urban women. Young
women in the rural Zimbabwe still face lot of challenges for them
to benefit these achievements because of inequalities created by
our patriarchal dominated history.
The Zimbabwean
community is urged to ensure that the future of the young women
especially in rural areas is bright, safe, equal and rewarding.
In this regard, great improvements have been made particularly in
Zimbabwe since we now have female prime ministers, female Chief
Executive Officers and many young women are welcomed into universities,
work and have families it shows real choices and the emancipation
of women.
COTRAD will
come together with partner organizations in commemorating the International
Women's Day at the ZCTU
hall on 12 March 2011 in Masvingo at 0900 hours.
