Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe is reported to be expecting her fourth child, though she denied the reports saying she was not in a position to have a baby.

Khupe has been spotted with a hugely visible bulge, prompting speculation that she is pregnant.
Close friends and party members last week revealed to The Standard that the MDC-T vice president was expecting and that despite her denials she was going to be a mother again at 47.

"It's an embarrassment, how can she be a mother at her age," a family member confided to a source last week.

Khupe is reported to be in a relationship with a Harare businessman, something which she again denied.

A senior party official again confirmed the reports that Khupe was pregnant saying people in the party had begun speaking about it openly.

"It is being spoken about and I have heard that as well," she said. "I cannot say it is true, but everyone in the party is talking about it."

The party member also confirmed that Khupe was seeing the Harare businessman, saying that despite her denials the deputy Prime Minister and the businessman were an "item".

"If you look at her, there will be no doubt that she looks pregnant, her stomach has clearly grown bigger in recent times," she added.

Rumours of Khupe's pregnancy began gathering steam last month at the MDC-T's 11th anniversary celebrations in Gokwe, with party insiders speaking in hushed tones over her expectancy.

"Some of us started suspecting from there I cannot confirm that she is pregnant though," another party member said.

A family member, who requested anonymity, said he had heard rumours about Khupe's pregnancy, saying if these were true, then she had been "careless".

Khupe on the other hand vehemently denied the rumours, revealing that even her 16-year-old daughter had called her also to find out if indeed she was pregnant.

"My daughter called me recently to ask if I was pregnant and I was shocked. Why would I want to have a baby at my age?" she quizzed.

Khupe said she was single and had no plans to get married adding that she had not seen the businessman in question for years.

"I have a busy schedule and I have no time to have children," she said. "In fact I do not want to get married and the three children I have are enough."

The former trade unionist said if indeed she was pregnant, then it was the working of the Holy Spirit.

Blaming the rumours on her big stomach, Khupe revealed that she was working on her torso and she was doing sit-ups every morning.

Khupe already has three children, twins aged 26 and a daughter aged 16.
