High
level dialogue review meeting
As a follow
up to the solidarity visit by Mary
Robinson and seven eminent women, WCoZ convened the Ministry
of Women Affairs Gender and Community Development, the Organ on
National Healing, Reconciliation and Integration, the leaders of
the women's wings of the political parties and the Women's
Parliamentary Caucus to a High Level Review and forward planning
meeting. The High Level Dialogue review meeting was held successfully
on the 12th of May 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The review meeting
was held under the theme, "Fragmentation is not an option"
is the first in a series of efforts to bring Zimbabwean women of
all diversities to work on a women's agenda.
All stakeholders
attending the meeting congratulated each other for having collaborated
to successfully host Her Excellency Mary Robinson and the seven
eminent women. The women's wings of political parties asked
WCoZ to convene them for another planning meeting so that they can
agree on an agenda and inform their political parties. The group
asked to be re-convened for a longer retreat to strategically plan
on the issues coming out of the Mary Robinson visit. There was a
suggestion that the meeting should focus on the Global
Political Agreement.
WCoZ takes the
constitution
making process to the business and church sector More than 40
professional and business women attended a lunch meeting at a local
hotel in Harare to have a deeper understanding of the Constitution
Making Process and the Women's
Charter. The objectives of the meeting were to create consensus
on women's issues in the new constitution and receive input
from professional and business women on the document. The meeting
was facilitated by Ms Sithokozile Thabete from Zimbabwe
Women Lawyers Association.
The
Church Sector
WCoZ convened
three separate meetings for the church sector, one was for 100 women
from Christian Alliance, 100 from Zimbabwe
Council of Churches and the third one was for 70 church leaders
from Evangelical
Fellowship of Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Council of Churches. The
aim of the meetings were to update women in the church sector on
the progress on the constitution making process and to ensure that
women are aware of the critical role they play in the process. The
meetings were facilitated by Slyvia Chirau and Getrude Murungu from
WILSA.
