The Solidarity Visit

Her Excellency Mary Robinson, the President of Realising Rights jetted into Zimbabwe yesterday for a solidarity mission with women. The former President of Ireland and former UN High Rights Commissioner is accompanied by prominent African women. The Zimbabwe Government is hosting Her Excellency and a delegation of 7 women leaders from the 25th to the 30th of April 2010. Mary Robinson is in the country for a solidarity visit with women of Zimbabwe to raise momentum on women's equal participation in the constitutional process and issues of transitional justice and national healing for women. The other objectives of the visit is to increase support for women's effective participation in the next elections in line with the SADC protocol; to identify concrete steps for Zimbabwe to develop a National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325 and construct plans for a second mission to Zimbabwe in 2011. That would include a wider circle around the follow-on event to the Liberian Colloquium planned for 8 March 2011 in Zimbabwe.
