The
US International Visitor Programme provides opportunity for Zimbabwe
women
The Deputy Chairperson of the Women's Coalition, Rutendo Hadebe
recently returned from a US Embassy sponsored International visitor
exchange programme which focused on "The role of NGOs in Promoting
Women's Global Issues." Ms Hadebe was one of the 22
different countries representatives who had the opportunity to explore
the Women rights issues in the United States. The programme included
an overview of how the Federal system interfaced with Women's
issues, how women's issues were dealt with at different state
levels, meetings with potential funding and strategic partners,
and sharing of ideas on issues that are common to women worldwide.
The programme created a well of opportunity for women in Zimbabwe
an the deputy chair is looking forward to give a report back session
with members of the Women's Coalition and the Gender Forum.

The Chairperson of the Women's Coalition of Zimbabwe, Emilia
Muchawa made a presentation at the Civil Society leaders Constitutional
Conference held at a local hotel in Harare recently. The Chairperson
remarked that the Constitutional Reform Process was relevant and
responsive for women and the current Constitution does not speak
for the needs of women.
Ms Muchawa also stated
that it was time to stand up as women so that their issues are at
the centre of process as there are opportunities for women to input
in the though no t a perfect process. She also remarked that women
will not sit at the sidelines and watch others drafting the Constitution
women of Zimbabwe this time will participate in the process.
