Women and Transitional Justice Meeting

The Research and Advocacy Unit (RAU) in collaboration with the Women's Coalition of Zimbabwe held a discussion meeting on Women and Transitional Justice. This meeting was a follow up to the film 'Hear Us-Women Affected by Political Violence Speak Out' that RAU and the Women's Coalition of Zimbabwe launched on the 5th of May 2009.

The meeting raised awareness of issues of transitional justice and peace building as they relate to women. A document with recommendations on the way forward will be prepared for the Organ on National Healing, Reconciliation and Integration. The recommendations will have a special focus on the Nairobi Declaration on Girls and Women's right to a Remedy and Reparations. This document stresses that crimes of a sexual nature should not receive pardon in post conflict situations in line with the UN Security Council Resolution 1820. The meeting was held at Meikles hotel Harare on Tuesday 26 May 2009.

Request for CV's Parliamentary Sub Committees

In a bid to ensure women's effective participation in the Constitutional Reform Process, WCoZ is calling upon feminist activists to participate in the Constitutional Reform Process at the different levels. One such fora women can participate actively is in the Parliamentary Sub Committees.

As you are aware Zimbabwe is currently undergoing a Constitutional Reform Process in terms of the Article 6 of the Global Political Agreement. As the Women's Coalition of Zimbabwe we have been participating in these processes at different levels. In terms of the provided framework, the Parliamentary Select Committee shall constitute of the Sub Committees which shall comprise of Parliamentarians and Representatives of civil society. We would like to avail the Parliamentary Select Committee with CVs of capable women so that we have our target of 50% women in the Parliamentary Sub-Committees.
