Praying and weeping for peace in Zimbabwe
Women's Coalition
May 10, 2008

Women and girls, you can do something for peace in your country.

Why pray?
Women and girls are spiritually strong and they cry unto God the creator for all their problems. We want God to heal our country. Zimbabwe is on the edge of a precipice. We need divine intervention.

Why weep?
When tragedy strikes in our families, communities and in the countrywomen express their sadness through incessant wailing. Tragedy has struck us as a country.

A large crowd of people followed him; among them were some women who were weeping and wailing for him. Jesus turned to them and said, "Daughters of Jerusalem! Don't cry for me, but for yourselves and your children." Luke 23:27-28.

  • We are weeping for food.
  • Weeping because our education, judiciary and health systems have collapsed.
  • We are weeping because we no longer have dignity as women of Zimbabwe as we go begging for breadcrumbs in the region to feed our children and families; we have become the laughing stock of the region and the world.
  • Weeping because there are have no jobs.
  • Weeping because there is no adequate and affordable transport.
  • Weeping because Government is buying millions of bullets and weapons of war when 2000 people are dying of HIV/AIDS every week since there are no ARVs.
  • Weeping because our sisters and children are being killed and their bones have been broken by organized violence.

What do we do?
Arise wailing women of ZIMBABWE and wail loudly for peace in Zimbabwe. God has not seen your tears, mourn, wail and shed tears for your country.

Every lunch hour from 1315hrs start praying with your colleagues wherever you are. From 1330hrs start weeping for the next 5minutes as a way of expressing sadness about our situation. Wail so that at least ten people can hear and feel your dispair.

Replicate the campaign at 7.30pm. Pray until 7.45pm and raise the your voices in mourning, weeping, wailing to express dispair until 7.50pm, wherever you are. You can do this in twos or threes. Tell all your relatives and friends about the Pray and Weep for Peace in Zimbabwe Campaign.

Pray and Weep for the tragedy that has become of Zimbabwe.

Then we cried out for help to the Lord, the God of our ancestors. He heard us and saw our suffering, hardship and misery. By his great power and strength he rescued us from our oppressors. (Psalms 107:13)
