Harare members to face trial
Women
of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA)

101 members of
Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) are to face trial later this month
charged under Chapter 37 of the Criminal
Law (Codification and Reform) Act - 'participating in a public
gathering with the intent to cause public disorder, breach of peace
or bigotry'. The women appeared in remand court in Harare this morning
where the Magistrate, Mrs Mariga, set the trial date for 23rd October
at Rotten Row Magistrate's Court.
If convicted,
the women could receive up to five years in custody or a heavy fine.
The women had been arrested on 11th September at Town House in Harare
whilst protesting against poor service delivery in the capital.
Meanwhile in Bulawayo,
154 more WOZA members are facing the same charges for their participation
in a demonstration against Operation
Sunrise (the slashing of zeroes) in August and will appear in
remand court on 10th October.
