Mayor to get a dose of 'Tough Love', an example of Ubuntu
that he must follow
Women
of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA)
July 03, 2006
BULAWAYO mayor Japhet
Ndabeni Ncube, a representative of the people of Bulawayo and City
father of the City of Kings will today be visited by over 500 members
of WOZA. Most WOZA members are themselves informal traders working
the streets to feed and educate their children. Today they will
put their vegetables aside and take to the streets to pressure the
mayor to more efficiently tell Chombo, Chihuri and Mathema the governor
of Bulawayo Enough is enough!
The mayor is to
be told in no uncertain terms that the 'war on the people' by the
Mugabe regime which is called Operation
Murambatsvina but is in reality an operation to clear away people
with alternative views trying to eke out a survival by informal
trade. He will also be told that the people of Bulawayo will not
turn to crime to survive and their daughters will not be turned
to prostitution. As he promised on 14 July we want from city council
a spirit of Ubuntu, a restoring of the Africa culture of humanness.
City Hall is located
diagonally opposite the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) charge office,
so it is fitting if they attend the peaceful protest in order to
hear the message loud and clear and pass it on to chihuri.
This activity
is part of the ongoing world Refugee Campaign under the following
theme. 'WOZA is marking this day because we are refugees in our
own country. Our lives have been stolen but the flame of hope still
burns. We demand the right to earn a living.'
Some of the placards
reflect these messages: We demand the right to trade. Ndabeni tell
Chihuri, Chombo, Mathema we want our right to trade respected City
of Kings what happened to Ubuntu. A child who remains silent on
its mother back will die. King Mambo and Mzilikazi died without
seeing this turmoil.
