Call for submissions for the Prize Betty Makoni Media Awards (Zimbabwe)

The Girl Child Network, a girl empowerment organization is inviting submissions for the Inaugural Prize Betty Makoni Media Award to be held on 4 December 2005 at a venue to be announced in the media.

The Award will honour Journalists who have conscientiously/consistently and passionately produced news articles on issues dealing with child abuse particularly child sexual abuse in the light of rapist to child HIV transmission. The articles should demonstrate a passion and sympathy for the girl child in Zimbabwe.

Entries will be judged according to their potential to evoke a national consciousness and the development of a sustainable culture of prevention of child abuse; and the creation of an attitude where prevention of abuse against children in everyone's concern. It is the intention of these awards to contribute to a future where harm done to children will no longer be acceptable.

Journalists/media practitioners are invited to prepare their profiles which will also include the news articles on issues of child abuse; submissions in both the print and the electronic media formats for the period 2004-2005.

The Deadline for submissions is 21 November 2005. Submissions should be sent to:
