Musasa Project
condemns the violent end to the life of Rutendo, wife of the Parliamentarian,
Learnmore Jongwe.
Domestic violence
happens every day with 1 in every 4 women experiencing physical,
sexual, psychological and economic violence. Therefore it is everyone’s
responsibility to shun domestic violence whenever it raises its
ugly head and not wait for tragedy to occur.
Gender violence
in whatever form or for whatever reason is a violation of one’s
human rights.
The tragic and
violent death of Rutendo has sent shock waves throughout the nation,
thus each one of us should seriously advocate for stringent measures
against perpetrators of domestic violence, such as the advocated
Domestic Violence draft Bill.
Remember today
it is Rutendo, tomorrow it can be you, your daughter, your sister,
or anyone in any family.
This indeed
is a lesson for all of us to take responsible action and give support
when ever we see domestic violence because that black eye, that
broken arm is a potential death.
Musasa Project,
together with the Women’s Coalition wishes to convey its sincere
condolences to the bereaved families and friends.
