ZNSPCA statement on Hwange elephants
Zimbabwe National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ZNSPCA)
November 24, 2006

ZNSPCA policy clearly states that "the Society is opposed to the domestication of any wild animal". The capture of the 12 sub adult elephants from Hwange National Park not only goes against our policy but it has been scientifically proven that the stress that the herd and the captured elephant experience is totally inhumane due to the complex family structure of elephants.

ZNSPCA have been monitoring the captured elephants and will continue to do so, even during their future training sessions. Our presence ensures that the welfare of the elephants will not be compromised.

We are also working with relevant authorities in Zimbabwe to prevent further permits being issued for the capture of any wild animals for domestication.
