Zimbabwe National Water
Authority (ZINWA) is a wholly government owned parastatal under
the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate. ZINWA’s main
mandate is to ensure optimum planning, development, utilisation
and management of water resources in Zimbabwe in a transparent and
sustainable manner with the participation of all stakeholders at
all levels.
The Ministry
of Environment, Water and Climate in conjunction with Zimbabwe National
Water Authority (ZINWA), engaged two local environment consultancy
companies that are jointly called the Outrun Investments - Green
Resources Consortium (The Consortium) to carry out an Environmental
Impact Assessment (EIA) Study for the National Matabeleland Zambezi
Water Project (NMZWP). The project scope covers land clearing, trenching
and construction of; Gwayi-Tshangani Dam (GTD), twin-pipeline from
GTD to Cowdray Park in Bulawayo, low lift & booster pump stations
and a link pipeline from Deka-Zambezi confluence to Kennedy Siding
where it will meet the twin-pipes. According, to the Environmental
Management Act (Chapter 20:27), Sections 97-98 and S.I 7 of 2007,
Part III, this is a “prescribed project”, thus, it needs
an EIA prior to implementation of the project.
In line with
the legal requirements and best practices for such projects, The
Consortium hereby invites stakeholder comments to the proposed project
as part of the stakeholder consultation process. This public notice
serves to inform that as part of the ongoing EIA stakeholder consultation
process, the consortium shall be facilitating meetings at various
venues at stipulated times and dates as
shown in the table.
For those who
may not be able to attend to these meetings feel free to contact
ZINWA or the consultant through the contact
details below. Though stakeholder consultation will be maintained
throughout the project life-cycle, you are requested to submit your
comments before 30 January 2014 to facilitate finalisation and submission
of the EIA Report to the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) for
review.
