The Zimbabwe
Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) hereby informs all motorists about the
introduction of road tolls with effect from 18th August 2009. The
road tolls, which will be levied on persons driving specified vehicles
on the City to City Trunk Road Network, will be payable at designated
tolling points and ports of entry as listed below.

The road tolls
are payable in foreign currency and the amounts are set in the US
Dollar. An option has been provided for payment in the Botswana
Pula, South African Rand, Euros and British Pounds using the international
cross rates of exchange of these currencies to the US Dollar prevailing
on the day before the date of payment.
Exemptions include
ambulances, fire brigade vehicles, Government number-plated vehicles
belonging to the State, vehicles registered by a diplomatic mission
and transit vehicles. Transit vehicles include foreign buses and
heavy goods vehicles in transit between two ports of entry.
Transit vehicles
will only be exempt if the person in charge of the vehicle shows
proof of payment of transit charges together with any of the following
documents which state the destination of the vehicle:
- A bilateral
permit or COMESA Treaty permit referred to in item 4 and 5 of
the Road Motor Transportation (Public Services Vehicles) Regulations,
1998; or
- A Route Authority
issued in terms of section 12 of the Road Motor Transportation
Act, 1997.
Motorists driving
Government-owned vehicles with private number plates, vehicles belonging
to parastatals and quasi-Government organisations, Local Authorities
as well as light motor vehicles transiting Zimbabwe are also required
to pay. Motorists are also kindly requested to tender the exact
amount of road tolls, observe road signs, reduce speed and exercise
extreme caution when approaching road tolling points. Traffic signs
have been erected to inform and warn motorists accordingly.
