Urgent
appeal for release of presidential vote results
Churches in
Manicaland
April 03, 2008
The Chairman
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission
As representatives of Churches in Manicaland we have observed that
the polling exercise of Saturday, March 29th, 2008 was conducted
in our province peacefully and in a manner that gave the voting
public confidence that the results would be announced swiftly and
truthfully.
We are now deeply concerned that the results of the presidential
vote have not yet been announced. Delay is causing unnecessary anxiety
to the Zimbabwean public and the world at large. As results were
posted at each polling station and collated at constituency level
several days ago, they are known to the public. The Zimbabwe Electoral
Commission's delay in making the announcement creates a dangerous
power vacuum, sets up conditions for chaos, and delays the important
process of national cohesion and healing.
We appeal to you as the Chairman of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission
to ensure that the presidential vote is announced immediately.
God demands that justice, truth and peace prevail in all that we
do. We pray that your Commission will be an instrument for God's
work.
