MDC MPs to set up CDF projects
Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T)
November 19, 2013

President Tsvangirai has said all Members of Parliament who were voted into office on an MDC ticket will establish Constituency Development Funds (CDF) in order to cushion the electorate from the vagaries of poverty created by the Zanu PF government.

He said this while addressing hundreds of MDC district structure members for Kuwadzana East, Kuwadzana and Dzivarasekwa in Kuwadzana, Harare last night. “The MPs will create MDC constituency development funds as the people are suffering with companies closing down,” said President Tsvangirai.

The CDF programme was implemented by Hon. Tendai Biti, the MDC Secretary General in 2009 when he was the Minister of Finance to improve the livelihoods of the communities.

However, the controversially appointed and corrupt Zanu PF government is failing to maintain the fund resulting in the communities facing untold hardships as Zanu PF is facing a crisis of legitimacy.

“I want to tell you that we did not lose in the last election but it was stolen from us. After Robert Mugabe stole the election, he created a national crisis. People have no jobs, have no money and it is sad that most of the youths have now resorted to taking drugs as Mugabe has destroyed the future of the youths.

“Robert Mugabe can claim to be the President of Zimbabwe but he does not have the legitimacy and the locus standi,” President Tsvangirai said.

The President urged the people not to lose hope in the face of adversity but to remain united for a purpose.

“Our goal is to achieve democratic change,” said President Tsvangirai.
