MDC 14th Anniversary - a milestone in the fight for democracy
Movement
for Democratic Change (MDC-T)
September
11, 2013
The MDC will hold its
14th anniversary celebrations running under the theme; “Claiming
the People’s Victory,” at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare
on Saturday.
The anniversary which
is an annual and crucial event on the MDC calendar gives opportunity
to both the leadership and supporters to converge and reflect on
the founding values and principles of the party with a view to charting
the way forward.
The past 14 years, MDC
has survived some of the most atrocious political vagaries at the
instigation of the brutal Zanu-PF regime and has established itself
as the most formidable political force in Zimbabwe and beyond.
Despite all odds the
MDC has grown phenomenally to becoming one of Africa’s most
revered and vibrant democratic movement to ever challenge successfully,
one of Africa’s oldest and most intransigent dictatorships.
Over the years the MDC
has been able to stir and turn-around the political, social and
economic life of the people of Zimbabwe.
The celebration which
comes soon after the stolen election could not have come at any
better time as people of Zimbabwe seriously need to reflect and
discern on the best way forward. This year’s anniversary would
certainly re invigorate our undying resolve to usher a totally new
political and economic dispensation which will bring real transformation
to the lives of many Zimbabweans.
Most importantly it will
re-energise the people’s endeavour for a democratic Zimbabwe
where everyone is free to participate in any sphere of life without
inhibition or state excesses which infringes on people’s basic
freedoms.
The people of Zimbabwe
will never relent in this march towards real transformation and
the MDC will never abdicate on its goal to deliver a free and democratic
Zimbabwe.
