MDC members attacked in Mbare
Movement
for Democratic Change
March
15, 2013
Nine MDC members
were this afternoon assaulted by unruly Zanu PF supporters at Nenyere
Flats in Mbare, Harare.
The nine were
assaulted while putting up MDC posters encouraging people to vote
yes tomorrow in the referendum
on the new Constitution.
A BBC news crew that
was in Mbare filming preparations for the referendum was also assaulted
and their filming equipment damaged by the same Zanu PF supporters.
The MDC members
are seeking medical attention. However, when they made a report
at Matapi Police Station, the police officers at the station refused
to accept their complaints saying they should first go and remove
the MDC T-shirts they were wearing.
A SADC observer team
in Zimbabwe for the referendum visited the MDC members and strongly
condemned the rowdy behaviour exhibited by the Zanu PF supporters.
However, all is set for
the referendum on the new Constitution and the MDC is confident
that the people of Zimbabwe will vote yes tomorrow in preparation
for free and fair elections that will be held this year and which
the MDC will resoundingly win and bring real change to the people
of Zimbabwe.
