5 Glen View MDC members denied bail again
Movement
for Democratic Change
February
20, 2013
The five MDC
members who are part of the 31
activists facing charges of murder were today denied bail at
the High Court.
The five were making
a fresh bail application before the trial judge, Justice Chinembiri
Bhunu. The 31 are jointly charged for murdering a police officer,
Petros Mutedza in Glen View, Harare in May 2011.
They have been in remand
prison since then. Those denied bail are; Last Maengahama, an MDC
national executive member, Glen View councillor, Tungamirai Madzokere,
Yvonne Musarurwa and Rebecca Mafukeni. They were denied bail on
allegations that they were a flight risk.
The trial will resume
on 25 February.
The MDC maintains that
its five members should be released immediately as they are facing
false murder charges.
The MDC position is
that the trial and continued incarceration of the five and the rest
of those accused is not prosecution but political persecution simply
because they are fighters for real change and a better Zimbabwe.
