Madzore receives hero's welcome
Movement
for Democratic Change
November
14, 2012
Solomon Madzore,
the MDC Youth Assembly chairperson this afternoon received a hero's
welcome at the party headquarters, Harvest House where thousands
of party supporters welcomed him.
Solomon was
released from Chikurubi
Security Maximum Prison where he spent the last 13 months because
he was being denied bail by Justice Chinembiri Bhunu. Madzore was
granted bail at the High Court yesterday where he is on trial with
28 other MDC members who are facing false
charges of murdering a police officer in Glen View, Harare last
year.
Business came
to a standstill in central Harare as thousands of party supporters,
city workers and shoppers joined the MDC leadership led by the Organising
secretary, Hon. Nelson Chamisa and spokesperson Hon Douglas Mwonzora
in welcoming Madzore.
Addressing the
crowd outside Harvest House, Madzore urged the people of Zimbabwe
to be unwavering in their fight for real change and a new Zimbabwe.
"Do not be scared of arrest in your struggle for a better
Zimbabwe. Life in prison is not death and I urge you to remain resolute
in your struggle for real change", he said.
He took a swipe
at Zanu PF's Patrick Chinamasa and Rugare Gumbo for issuing
out hollow statements recently stating that there would be a revolt
in the country with the impending victory of President Tsvangirai.
"As the
MDC Youth Assembly, we are not worried about the statements made
by Chinamasa and Gumbo. You will be either drunk, mad or both to
make such an uninformed statement and believe that President Tsvangirai
will not be the Head of State next year after the elections,"
said Madzore.
He thanked President
Tsvangirai for steering the party and the country well. He also
saluted the Youth Assembly deputy chairperson, Costa Machinguta
for leading and maintaining discipline in the youths during this
critical stage of the struggle to deliver real change in Zimbabwe.
He also gave
credit to junior prison officers at Chikurubi prison for looking
after him well. Madzore said the officers had urged him to send
a message on their behalf to President Tsvangirai, that he should
not forget about their welfare when the next government is formed.
In his welcoming
speech to Madzore on behalf of the President, Hon. Chamisa said
although Madzore had been freed, the party and the people of Zimbabwe
were still concerned about the other 26 MDC members who are in remand
prison.
He said Madzore
had been arrested on behalf of the millions of Zimbabwe who believe
in real change. ?It is a sacrifice for a new Zimbabwe, real change
and freedom. This time next year, the MDC is going to be the ruling
party in this country, he added and received wild applause from
the crowd.
