President Tsvangirai to remember Chiweshe 2008 victims on Saturday
Movement
for Democratic Change
October
26, 2012
The MDC leadership
led by President Tsvangirai will on Saturday join hundreds of MDC
members and families of 14 slain MDC members at a memorial rally
to be addressed at Chaona Business Centre in Chiweshe, Mazowe North
in Mashonaland Central.
It was a gruesome
moment for the people of Chaona when Zanu PF militia went wild and
murdered, attacked, raped, burned and looted property of MDC members
after their party had been heavily defeated
by the MDC and President Tsvangirai in the 29 March 2008 polls.
So gruesome
was the act which saw 14 MDC members from Chaona being massacred
in cold blood, during this period.
The now deceased
are; Gibbs Tayengwa Chironga, Joel Ngowani, Joel Lewis Musiiwa,
Chironga Hama, Dofo Fushirayi, Godfrey Jemedze, Remember Kanyemba,
David Mapuranga Tachiwa, Doreen Marufu, Arthur Matombo, Partson
Madzuramhende, Rumbidzai Samhu, Runyararo Mugauri, Runyararo Musoni
and Fungisai Ziome.
They are part
of over 500 MDC members who were killed by Zanu PF hooligans aided
by State security agents and being bankrolled by the Reserve Bank
governor.
In 2009, the
MDC submitted a list to the Attorney General and the Police Commissioner
General, Augustine Chihuri with the list of the perpetrators of
violence but no arrest and prosecution have been made up to now.
The Central
Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative Elias Kanengoni and Cairo
Mhandu, the MP for Mazowe North, who is a retired major in the army,
were leading the massacres in Chiweshe.
A similar memorial
rally was held in Zaka early this month where President Tsvangirai
who was accompanied by Mai Elizabeth Tsvangirai heard harrowing
stories of how Zanu PF members in army uniforms petrol bombed MDC
offices at Jerera growth point killing three MDC members and injuring
others.
Other rallies
are set to be held across the country as the party commemorates
its heroes and heroines for real change.
