President Tsvangirai to address MDC Chitungwiza family
Movement
for Democratic Change
October
19, 2012
President Tsvangirai
will tomorrow, Saturday, address thousands of party supporters at
a rally at Huruyadzo Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza to mark the
MDC's 13th provincial anniversary celebrations.
The rally is
the first since the party held its colourful 13th anniversary celebrations
at White City Stadium in Bulawayo which was attended by over 30
000 people.
The rallies,
which are being held across the country under the theme; "The
Last Mile Towards Real Transformation", are a celebration
to mark the MDC's 13 years of existence, achievements in government,
Parliament and the local councils where it holds the majority of
seats.
The President
who will be accompanied by the MDC national senior leadership is
expected to speak on a number of issues as the party and the people
of Zimbabwe prepare for the referendum
on the Constitution and next year's watershed elections.
The rally will
be held just a day before the start of the Second All Stakeholders'
Conference to be held in Harare from 21-23 October before constitutional
draft is tabled before Parliament for debate.
President Tsvangirai
is also expected to talk on the history and state of the party as
well as the inclusive
government in his capacity as the Prime Minister of Zimbabwe
and the head of all government business.
He is expected
to make a bold statement on the continued incarceration of 30 MDC
members who include the Youth Assembly chairperson Solomon Madzore
on false
murder charges. 29 of the members have been in remand prison
for over 17 months. He will denounce Zanu PF and State orchestrated
violence, intimidation and the arbitrary arrests of senior officials,
members and party supporters.
The rally is
being held at a time when Zanu PF is in a panic mode and is issuing
threatening and treasonous statements that the dying party will
not accept defeat at the hands of the MDC and President Tsvangirai
opting instead to incite the military to stage a coup in the country.
