Bail ruling reserved indefinitely; trial resumes Monday
Movement
for Democratic Change (MDC)
September
19, 2012
The bail application for the Glen View 29 was today closed with
the Judge reserving the ruling indefinitely. The 29 MDC activists
will remain behind bars after High Court Judge; Justice Chinembiri
Bhunu reserved the bail ruling as he was not yet ready with the
judgment. The MDC members were applying for bail on changed circumstances.
They have been in remand prison since March
However, the trial for
the murder case resumes on Monday at 10 am at the High court.
In his submissions,
the State Prosecutor Nyazamba said the testimonies of Inspector
Mutedza's relatives were weird as they were arguing in defence
of the accused. He said the Police had arrested those suspected to
have murdered the officer yet the relatives of the deceased are
vouching on their behalf. The defence team however, felt that these
changed extraordinary circumstances should enable the Glen
View 29 to be granted bail.
The last two witnesses
shocked the court when they revealed that the body of the late Inspector
Mutedza had a hole in the head, a missing tongue and lacerated private
parts. This is in sharp contradiction with what the police have
been telling the nation that Inspector Mutedza was struck with a
stone, fell from a moving vehicle and died on the spot.
