Women's Assembly demands the release of Woza leaders
MDC Women's Assembly
September 13, 2012

The MDC Assembly of Women condemns the arrest of Jenni Williams and Magodonga Mahlangu of Women of Zimbabwe Arise (Woza) and unreservedly calls for their immediate and unconditional release.

We note with concern that the reason for their arrest remains shrouded in secrecy. The continued harassment of these two women bears testimony to the reality that Zimbabwe is still a police state four years after the formation of the inclusive government.

The Women's Assembly looks forward to a new Zimbabwe where people can demonstrate against their government or any institution on issues that concern them with police enabling them to deliver their petitions to the targeted offices of government.

The demand by WOZA for the expediting of the constitutional reform process is not only just, but expected of an enlightened women's pressure group.

As the Women's Assembly, we unreservedly throw our weight behind you "Women of Excellence" - Williams, Mahlangu and millions of other Zimbabwean women who are fighting for real change and a better life for all.
