Zanu PF torch MDC official's home in Masvingo
Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)
August 30 , 2012

A thatched hut belonging to Tongai Gava, the MDC district committee member was early this month razed to the ground by Zanu PF supporters in Ward 15, Chezhara Village in Masvingo Central.

The Zanu PF arsonists were led by Jemitias Gava. No arrests have been made although Gava has made a report to the police and the Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee (Jomic).

Narrating the ordeal, Tongai Gava said on 13 August this year, a group of villagers in the area were discussing the political developments taking place in the country. Tongai Gava pointed out to the group that the people's living standards had improved significantly since the MDC formed the inclusive government.

He pointed out the availability of food in the shops, that clinics, hospitals and schools had reopened and that when the MDC forms the government next year after winning the elections, there would be great improvement in the country. The statements angered the Zanu PF supporters gathered and they walked away.

However, on the same night, Gava heard some noise outside his bedroom and when he went out to investigate and he saw his thatched kitchen was on fire. Gava managed to positively identify Jemitias among the fleeing Zanu PF arsonists.

Gava lost most of the kitchen utensils, clothes and uniforms of his children. No one was injured.
