Tonderai Ndira's memorial service to be held Sunday
Movement
for Democratic Change (MDC)
May
11, 2012
A memorial service for Tonderai Ndira, for the former MDC Youth
Assembly National Secretary for Security will be held at the Ndira
residence in Mabvuku, Harare on Sunday.
Ndira, "Sergie"
as he was popularly known, was abducted
by 10 heavily armed State security agents at his Mabvuku residence
on 14 May 2008 in the run-up to June 2008 presidential
sham election.
The memorial service
will be held at Number 23 Muroti Street, Chizhanje, Old Mabvuku
from 9am to 3pm.
Hundreds of senior MDC
officials, members, relatives and friends are expected to attend
the service.
After his abduction MDC
officials and the Ndira family moved from police to police station
in search of Sergie. After a tip-off, his heavily mutilated and
decomposing body was found at Parirenyatwa Hospital's mortuary
in Harare.
He was 32.
According to his wife,
Plaxedeus, they only managed to identify Tonderai because of his
distinct arm band that he wore on his left arm and a scar on his
left leg.
A post mortem-report
produced by a specialist from South Africa showed that Tonderai
was murdered barely seven minutes after his violent abduction from
his Mabvuku home.
Before his death, Tonderai
had been abducted, arrested and brought to court on more than 35
times. However, he was acquitted in all these cases. He was buried
at the Warren Hills cemetery in Harare.
Four years down the line
although his murderers are known, no arrests have been made.
Ndira is part of over
500 MDC members who were murdered by Zanu PF supporters aided by
State security agents and bankrolled by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
Thousands other MDC members
were maimed as Zanu PF and the State militia unleashed violence
after its candidate Robert Mugabe had been defeated in an earlier
poll by MDC President, Morgan Tsvangirai.
Ndira left behind a wife
and two children Raphael and Linnet.
