  • A step towards justice
    MDC Youth Assembly
    February 17, 2012

Councillor Tungamirai Madzokere, brothers Lazarus and Stanford Maengahama, Phineas Nhatarikwa, Stanford Mangwiro, Yvonne Musarurwa and Rebecca Mafikeni they have finally tested freedom. They were granted bail today at the Supreme Court by Deputy Chief Judge, Justice Luke Malaba. They were granted US$500 each with councillor Madzokere granted US$1 000 bail. The seven MDC members were arrested together with other 27, 9 were released without charge and the other 18 were granted bail at the High Court last year.

They were arrested on false charges of murdering a police officer in Glen View in May last year at a popular beer outlet few weeks after our 3rd National Congress.

The MDC Youth Assembly President Solomon Madzore, Jefias Moyo and Paul Rukanda are still in remand prison and are yet to be granted bail as they were arrested later in the year.

The MDC Youth Assembly remains sanguine that justice will prevail and the three will be granted bail. Their arrest is political and they deserve their freedom. We know these are ZANU PF tactics to derail the process of change in Zimbabwe but they will not achieve that.
