Movement
for Democratic Change (MDC)
February
15, 2012
Shepherd Bandau, an MDC member who was murdered
by Zanu PF thugs in Mbare, Harare on Friday was laid to rest today
at Kaseke Village in Domboshava.
Hundreds of
MDC members from Mbare and other parts of Harare, including senior
party officials attended the burial.
Addressing mourners
at the funeral, Harare organising secretary, Tichaona Munyanyi denounced
any form of violence and called upon the police to take action against
the escalating violence that is being perpetrated in Mbare by the
Zanu PF- aligned Chipangano youths.
Bandau, who
was the branch treasurer for Jo'burg Lines in Mbare was on
Friday murdered by known Zanu PF youths operating under the notorious
Chipangano wing.
Five of the
10 Zanu PF youths have been arrested and today appeared at the Harare
Magistrates' Courts where they were denied bail and told to
apply for bail at the High Court.
The five are
Paraffin Masiyambiri, Marko Mutemeri, Peter Zvomuya, Edward Gava
and Tineyi Rupiya.
On the fateful
day, Bandau was on his way home from Jo'burg Lines shops when
10 Chipangano thugs approached him and started assaulting him with
booted feet and throwing him against the wall.
Chipangano is
a notorious Zanu PF outfit that is operating in Mbare. It is sponsored
by two losing
Zanu PF parliamentary candidates in the 2008 elections, Tendai Savanhu
and Zanu PF Harare provincial chairperson, Amos Midzi.
The other sponsor
is Hubert Nyanhongo, the MP for Harare South and the Deputy Minister
for Energy and Power Development. He is a retired Colonel.
The three are
paying and oiling the Zanu PF youths who operate under the rogue
outfit to unleash violence on suspected MDC supporters. The Zanu
PF shock-troops operate from Carter House, a booking house owned
by the Harare City Council in Mbare.
Savanhu was
present at the Harare Magistrates' Courts when the Zanu PF
youths appeared in court today.
