  • Madzore bail ruling now set for next Wednesday
    Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)
    November 23, 2011

The High Court bail hearing for Solomon Madzore, the MDC Youth Assembly chairperson was again postponed to next Wednesday in order to give the courts and the State time to go through new evidence brought to court by the defence counsel today.

The new evidence by the defence counsel, shows that Madzore was not on the run, contrary to the State's earlier claims opposing bail at the High Court claiming that Madzore was on the run and if granted bail, he will skip the country as he has vast contacts abroad.

However, some of the defence counsel's evidence shows that Madzore was not on the run but is shown addressing thousands of MDC supporters at different rallies and other party gatherings.

After this new evidence, Justice Maria Zimba Dube then ruled that the matter be postponed to next Wednesday in order to give her and the State time to go over the evidence.

Madzore was arrested last month on trumped-up charges of murdering a police officer in Glen View in May. He is part of 28 other MDC activists who are facing similar charges. Some of the activists have been granted bail but Madzore and seven others are still in remand prison.
