Police act professionally
MDC
Youth Assembly
October 31, 2011
The MDC Youth Assembly is greatly disturbed by the continuous disruption
of peaceful MDC rallies in Matabeleland. We are strongly convinced
that politics is at play. It is deplorable that the police forces
are trading their basic principle of professionalism in favour of
cheap politics. Our deepest prayer is that this unfashionable and
wayward behaviour cease forthwith.
We have no kind words
for police officers who despite repeated calls for non-partisan
execution of duties still find it worthwhile to disregard to stand
in the way of the people of Zimbabwe. We wish to remind the people
of Zimbabwe that as the Youth Assembly we will forever fight for
what is rightfully the freedom of the people of Zimbabwe.
We will never allow
Zanu PF's dirty antics to stop us from delivering real change
to the millions of Zimbabweans who have endured the brunt of Mugabe's
dictatorship for the past 30 years without reprieve. We are very
cognisant of our mandate and duty to the people of Zimbabwe.
They will continue
to disrupt and arrest us but the wishes of the people of Zimbabwe
who voted
for the MDC in 2008 will forever be our rock on which to climb
on as we fight hard to deliver freedom and justice right at the
door of every Zimbabwean citizen inclusive of police officers and
Zanu PF charlatans.
We call on the principals
to come out open against such overzealous police officers who are
shamelessly taking the law into their hands. We also call upon Augustine
Chihuri as the police commissioner general to give an explanation
to the people of Zimbabwe why his troops continue to act in the
manner they are doing right now.
The MDC won
legitimate and credible polls
in 2008 and it's very unfortunate that Zimbabwe Republic
Police continues to disregard the people's party of choice.
Those party thugs masquerading as police officers should stop their
behaviour forthwith and let freedom and peace prevail in our dear
Zimbabwe.
We wish to remind Chihuri
and his troops that they can only delay but cannot stop real change,
freedom and democracy to the people of Zimbabwe. Their ignorance
will not count; Zimbabwe is taking on an irreversible journey towards
freedom.
Our President is the
Prime Minister of this Republic and a senior government official
who deserves respect from government workers including the police
officers. The inclusive government was formed to prepare ground
for peaceful polls and it is regrettable that Zanu PF and the police
are working out flatly to derail the freedom train.
Meanwhile the MDC Deputy
Treasurer General Hon Elton Mangoma addressed a rally at Nyabadza
business centre in Rusape, Makoni Central constituency on Saturday
at the weekend. He questioned the way the police are operating.
He said if Chihuri and his police force act professionally in the
forthcoming elections, the issue of violence will be history. Hon
Mangoma encouraged the people of Makoni central to remain united
and focused as the days of ZANU PF are numbered.
Women's Assembly
National Organising Secretary, Hon Kerenyi Kore said the women of
Zimbabwe are not going back on their fight for total emancipation.
She said they are going to make sure that women are well represented
at all government levels.
Addressing the same
gathering, the Youth Assembly Spokesperson Clifford Hlatywayo stressed
the need for concerted efforts to create a peaceful environment.
He expressed anger over the reckless manner in which Zanu PF and
their party mercenaries continue to act as if they are God.
"Abuse of power
and office has become the order of the day in the security sector
and should stop immediately", said Hlatywayo. He also encouraged
all the youth to go and register to vote. He said the only weapon
we have to remove Mugabe and ZANU PF is a ballot.
The rally was attended
by several MPs including Hon Chimbetete, Hon T Saruwaka, Hon D Chimhini,
Hon P Muchauraya, Hon I Gonese, Hon W Chinyadza, Hon Tangwara Matimba
and Hon E Matinenga. Also present were National Executive members
of the Youth Assembly Knowledge Nyamhoka and Laston Julius and Joyce
Makonya and mai Bharazawu from the Women's Assembly.
