We shall defend people's vote
MDC
Youth Assembly
October 10, 2011
Around 3 000 MDC supporters gathered yesterday at Induba grounds
in Mpopoma constituency, Bulawayo, for the Presidential Campaign
Launch Youth rally. The gathering, organised by the Bulawayo province
MDC Youth Assembly, was meant to declare the youths' unwavering
support to party Presidential candidate Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.
During the rally, the youths pledged to register as voters and to
campaign vigorously for the president. They made it clear that they
have suffered enough under the harsh political and economic climate
and come election time, will vote for President Tsvangirai. They
said they will vote for jobs, investments, food, genuine youth empowerment,
quality education, hope and other programmes the party has undertaken
to arrest the economic and socio-political decline in the country.
In his keynote address, the MDCYA deputy president Costa Machingauta
declared the youths' endorsement of President Tsvangirai as
the party's candidate and urged the youths to "defend"
their votes, saying they should not allow the 2008 scenario to repeat
itself. "We are declaring our support to the candidature of
President Morgan Tsvangirai, pledge to vote in our millions and
subsequently our commitment to defend our election victory,"
adding, "We are going to defend our vote, parents, communities
and our economy. Do not be intimidated by the continued arrests
and harassment of our leaders and members, is the last kick of a
dying horse"
Speaking at the same
occasion MDCYA spokesperson Clifford Hlatywayo challenged the youth
to take the leading role in making sure that change has come to
our beloved nation. He encouraged them to emulate their Zambian
counterparts, who contributed significantly in President Michael
Sata's victory in the recent Zambian election: "Youths
are key players in this struggle, lets prepare ourselves for the
forthcoming plebiscite, let's show Mugabe and Zanu PF that
we are tired of them. We are the game changers, this is our era."
MDCYA Bulawayo province
chairperson Temba Nyathi also encouraged the youths to go and register
as voters and to vote for change, saying, "We are going to
vote in peace for Morgan Tsvangirai."
The lively rally was
characterised by dance and music, with Murimoga's song: Vechidiki
vanoiziva vhoti yavo, vhoti yavo ndiTsvangirai, the most popular.
The rally was attended by various MDC officials, among them former
National youth chairman Tamsanqa Mahlangu; MDCYA National Secretary
for Security, Defense and Intelligence James Chidakwa; Bulawayo
National Executive member Mr. Mapungwana; Harare Province MDCYA
Vice Chairman Stanley Manyenga and his executive; Bulawayo Province
Vice Chairperson Hon Dorcas Sibanda, and several MPs and executives
of the Youth and Women's Assemblies from the province.
Meanwhile the
lawyer representing MDCYA president Solomon Madzore has today successfully
filled a High Court bail application, the hearing is on Wednesday
12 October 2011 at 0900.
