MDC Youth Assembly members languishing in prison
MDC
Youth Assembly
October 05, 2011
Today the 5th of October 2011 has seen MDC youth assembly members
being remanded in custody to the 19th of October for allegedly
murdering Petros Mutedza in Glen View at a popular beer hall.
Meanwhile, the Youth Assembly President who was arrested
yesterday at his home for the same charge is expected to appear
in court tomorrow the 6th of October 2011.
The Law officers around the country's courts are on an industrial
action and we feel the timing of the Assembly's President's
arrest is to make sure that he rots in the filthy police holding
cells. As the Youth Assembly we feel that justice delayed is justice
denied. We call upon the police to investigate all the murders,
kidnappings and torture perpetrated by ZANU PF thugs in the
run-up to the 27 June 2008 one man Presidential runoff.
Many of these murderers are well known but they are still roaming
the streets scot free yet innocent youths and MDC leaders are holed
up in jails, a place where these Zanu PF criminals and functionaries
should be locked. There has also been violence in Chipinge South
on Sunday, where two MDC officials including the District Secretary,
Nyasha Madhodha and Forget Hlomani the Assembly District Vice Secretary
were assaulted and the perpetrators of this violence have been not
arrested instead the victims are the ones who were arrested.
President Solomon Madzore, Councilor Tungamirai Madzokere, Lazarus
and Stanford Maengahama, Phineas Nhatarikwa, Stanford Mangwiro,
Yvonne Musarurwa and Rebecca Mafikeni are innocent civilians whose
crime is their dedication and commitment to liberate the nation
from the bondage of the dictatorial Zanu PF regime. These young
people of Zimbabwe and many others have embarked on this crusade
against this sunset Party to finish the unfinished business of the
liberation struggle.
Meanwhile, another MDC member Taruvinga Magaya from Kambuzuma constituency
has been arrested today and is believed to be at the Braeside police
Station. Charges against him are not yet known.
We call for the immediate release of all the political detainees
who are facing porous charges which the state is dragging because
it has no evidence of the actual sequence of events on the particular
day in question. We do not support lawlessness but reaffirm our
commitment to the respect of the rule of law.
