Condolence message to the Karanda family from the MDC Acting President, Hon Lovemore Moyo

The MDC extends its heartfelt condolences to the Karanda family at the sudden loss of a gallant fighter for real change, Diamond 'Dhafu' Karanda. Indeed the Party has lost a brave and courageous young man, who was ready to sacrifice his life for the struggle of real change.

Diamond leaves a legacy that is only attributable to brave young people who gave up their personal freedoms to ensure that a new, democratic and prosperous Zimbabwe is attained.

As a party, we recognise his contribution to the struggle for democracy dating back to his days as the Glen Norah district youth chairperson. In recognition of his immense contribution to the democratic struggle, Diamond was befittingly awarded a certificate for being one of the founders and a pioneering leadership of the MDC at the 12th anniversary celebrations held at Gwanzura Stadium on 10 September 2011.

His commitment to the struggle for real change can not be questioned, as he, together with thousands other members suffered at the hands of the police and Zanu PF militia, where he was assaulted, arrested and charged on frivolous charges - despite all inhuman treatment he endured, he remained committed to fighting for a new Zimbabwe.

To the MDC, Karanda remains an important pillar; he is a part of our history for change. As a party, we are satisfied and proud of the role that Karanda played in this fight for a better tomorrow for all Zimbabwean citizens.

His, is a success story; a really passionate, focused, committed, fearless and dedicated defender of democratic principles; who stood for and believed in a free society where freedom of thought, expression and assembly are highly respected.

It is his vision, and that of hundreds of our departed members and activists, that strengthens our resolve to continue in our fight towards a new, democratic and prosperous Zimbabwe where all people can live in dignity, security, democracy and freedom, prosperity and hope.

The MDC extends its heartfelt condolences to the Karanda family, his children, and the MDC family as a whole at the loss of such a young man of courage.
