More than ready for elections - MDC Youth Assembly
MDC Youth Assembly
July 26, 2011

It is naïve for any level headed persona to participate in an election which does not guarantee state power transfer in the event of President Morgan Richard Tsvangirai winning the election again which is a foregone conclusion. The MDC Youth Assembly is not prepared to legitimise such a ZANU PF chicanery that is why we call for a comprehensive election roadmap that guarantees among other things, transfer of state power. Let us restate that we are not scared of elections and the issues of dates is peripheral to the debate for if mechanisms to transfer state power are put in place we are ready to hit the ground as of yesterday and complete the 29th of March, 2008 historic step to change. Neither are we scared of the Generals in the event of protecting a loser for we know change will not come from the barracks but to the barracks, but as youths of moral conscience we strive to avoid shedding blood.

After all, the MDC has been winning unfree and unfair elections against ZANU PF since 2000, but we cannot let rowdy, rogue and treacherous elements in Zanu PF and those in the notorious security sector to willingly violet our land's supreme law. These people need to be reminded that the Global Political Agreement is part of the Constitution enshrined as Amendment 19. No one is above the law, neither the generals nor Zanu PF politburo. The conditions and even the date have to be agreed by all political parties in the government. Gone are the days where Zanu PF was taking the people of Zimbabwe for granted and alienating their critical input in issues that affect them.

The ZANU PF governing elite is pushing for hurried elections because of their intention to throw Zimbabwe back into the dark days where they torture and kill people reminiscent of June 27, 2008 and Gukurahundi. The MDC is and will always be ready for elections but it is this build up to a 'blood election' that pushes us to embrace the SADC roadmap. The GNU must ensure that as we go for the coming elections the conditions should be favourable for a peaceful and nonviolent election process. We do not want an election process that will result in bloodshed, loss of beloved ones, breadwinners, friends and our sources of livelihoods. We exist because the people of Zimbabwe want us as MDC to lead them, so their blood must not be shed at will by people who do not fear God and does not even respect one of the most important of the 10 commandments that says, Do not kill and one says love your neighbour. Zimbabwe has been bedevilled by state sponsored violence, where the uniformed forces, CIOs, War veterans and the controversial lethal Boarder Gezi youth militias are at the forefront committing gruesome acts of violence on innocent civilians.

To you, the progressive peace loving people of our dear nation, let's unite against bloodshed, anarchy and selfish political wishes of people who want to sacrifice the whole nation to remain in power. Zimbabweans must proceed with their normal farming plans for next season. Elections will certainly be held after a clear and comprehensive roadmap and on this, as MDC Youth Assembly, we are prepared to take detractors to the wire (kwamvurayacheka makumbo).

Let us all read 1 Corinthians 13 vs. 1...

Say No to violence, corruption... Yes to Peace, Jobs, Food and Education
