Statement on the continued incarceration of MDC activists
Movement
for Democratic Change (MDC) Youth
Assembly
June 18, 2011
The MDC Youth
Assembly is concerned on the continued denial of freedom to the
20 party activists arrested
on malicious allegations
of murdering a police officer in Glen View. The activists have
on numerous counts applied for bail without success. We are concerned
that even though the state cannot prove their case they continue
to oppose their bail application.
Allegations by the state that they are a threat
to society should be rubbished considering that the state is failing
to augment their case with facts. The investigations are going on
at a tortoise pace and we believe this is a ploy by Zanu PF to make
them suffer.
We know the invisible hand behind the matter and
we do not hesitate to point finger on Zanu PF. The old people's
party has for years been a beneficiary of such arrests with the
assistance of security forces. There is irrefutable evidence that
Zanu PF is part of the whole saga. Their undemocratic and illegitimate
control of state security and the judiciary is clearly evident in
this case.
Our call is
a challenge for professionalism from the security forces in their
conduct and stop politicizing the whole issue. We believe the murder
was not committed by MDC activists. MDC is a peaceful and non violent
party. The party known for violence is Zanu PF. They murdered people
during the Gukurahundi era, 2008
elections and still continue to murder purported MDC supporters.
It is known world over that Zanu PF murdered Tonderai Ndira, Better
Chokururama, Cain Nyeve and many MDC activists countrywide.
Labeling MDC a violent party is not only fooling
themselves but also exposing their shameless and failed propaganda
tactics that nobody dare listen to. Zimbabweans, SADC and the rest
of the world know that the culture of violence resides in Zanu PF
and not MDC. They can arrest, detain, intimidate and kill but they
will not derail imminent change in Zimbabwe.
We demand peace in Zimbabwe, we demand an end to
arbitrary arrest, and we demand non politicization of the security
forces. We demand professionalism from the security and judiciary
services.
