  • We condemn the arrests - MDC Youth Assembly
Youth Assembly, Movement for Democratic Change
    June 01, 2011

The MDC Youth Assembly is concerned by the arrests of our members and leaders. We feel it is improper and unorthodox for the police to finger out the party as a player in a violent incident that occurred at a beer drinking binge.

We condemn the police show of unprofessionalism of jumping the gun well before investigations, a position that we feel makes the police investigations a window dressing as they already wanted to get to tarnish the good name and image of the MDC amongst the populace and beyond.

We get more concerned by the now familiar arrests, detention and interrogation mode of investigation the Zimbabwe Republic Police uses as such tactics usually produce self implicating confessions from the suspects. The issue of denying our members access to their lawyers is unethical and uncalled for.

We reiterate our value for the sanctity of life. We vehemently deny that our youths who are disciplined citizens and cadres, are involved in any acts of violence that take life, especially the life of a police officer, Inspector Petros Matedza.

MDC is a non violent party, hence we call upon the Zimbabwe Republic Police to institute a professional non biased investigation exercise for all cases of violence and stop terrorising innocent civilians. All perpetrators of violence, killers and corrupt elements within and outside government must brought to book before any elections.
