PM Odinga to be guest of honour at the MDC Congress
Movement for Democratic Change

Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga will be the guest of honour at the MDC Third National Congress to be held at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo at the end of the month. Addressing a press conference at Harvest House, the MDC head quarters, today, the party organising secretary, Hon. Elias Mudzuri said PM Odinga had confirmed that he would attend the watershed Congress.

The Congress will take place between 28 to 30 April after the dates were moved to accommodate the Workers' Day Celebrations that will be addressed by several senior MDC officials across the country. Hon. Mudzuri said the party had decided to invite PM Odinga who is the President of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

"We decided to invite PM Odinga because of his social - democratic credentials," said Hon. Mudzuri.

On the Congress preparations and progress made, Hon. Mudzuri said elections, although they had been done in all provinces, had been completed in Harare, Chitungwiza, Mashonaland West, Matebeleland North, Matebeleland South, Mashonaland East, Midlands South and Masvingo. He said some of the elections were disrupted by the police and had to be aborted in four provinces. These provinces are; Midlands North, which has had its elections aborted twice on 2 April and 10 April, Mashonaland Central, Manicaland and Bulawayo.

The aborted provincial elections are expected to resume this week.

The Congress is being held under the theme; "The MDC Third National Congress - United, Winning - The People's Covenant to Real Change!!"
