Hon. Mangoma removed from remand
Movement for Democratic Change
April 04, 2011

Hon. Elton Mangoma, the MDC Deputy Treasurer-General and Energy and Power Development Minister has been released from remand prison. Hon. Mangoma was arrested two weeks ago on trumped-up charges of abusing a public office as the energy minister. Last week, he was given a US$5 000 bail at the High Court but was remanded in custody after the State invoked the Section 121 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act to suspend the bail order.

Today, Justice Joseph Musakwa rejected an appeal by the State to continue keeping the minister in remand. The judge further rejected the State's appeal to bar Hon. Mangoma from visiting his government offices at Chaminuka Building.
