Two MDC officials released
Movement for Democratic Change
February 26, 2011

Jabulani Chikomwe, the Policy and Research Officer in the MDC President's office and Samuel Mangoma, the Elections Coordinator, who were arrested last night on trumped-up charges of plotting the Mbare violence were late this afternoon released without a charge.

The two MDC officials were released on US$20 fine after it proved futile to find evidence to link the two to the said disturbances in Mbare.

The two were picked up at Avondale shopping center yesterday by two detectives from the vehicle theft squad and taken to Southerton Police Station, ostensibly to check vehicle records.

Whilst at Southerton, the detectives were ordered to send them to Harare Central Police station where they were locked up for allegedly being behind violence that broke out in Mbare two weeks ago.

The unpopular Zanu PF bussed in its youth from rural areas into Mbare where they assaulted and displaced known MDC activists. More than 1280 households have been affected, either at their workplaces or from their places of residence.
