Youth Assembly press conference at Harvest House
Movement for Democratic Change
February
01, 2011
The MDC Youth
Assembly held a national executive meeting today at Harvest and
came up with the following resolutions.
Violence
The MDC Youth
Assembly strongly condemns the organised Zanu PF violence and thuggery
being perpetrated against the defenceless people of Mbare, Budiririro,
Epworth and other democracy loving people around the country. We
note with concern the police's ineffectiveness in stopping
the violence and bringing the perpetrators to book. We are concerned
by the harassment of our Youth Assembly members who are being are
arrested on flimsy grounds yet they are the victims of the Zanu
PF sponsored violence.
We call upon
the ministers of Home Affairs, Hon. Theresa Makone and Hon. Kembo
Mohadi, the Police Commissioner - General Augustine Chihuri and
the police chiefs to take urgent action against violence perpetrators.
We do not want Zimbabwe to be ungovernable because of a few misguided
people who are being used for selfish means by certain politicians.
As the MDC Youth
Assembly, we more than prepared to defend the defenseless electorate
if the police continue to stand aloof and be indifferent to Zanu
PF violence. We are equally concerned that the police in Mbare have
become part of the problem as they stand and watch Zanu PF youths
running mad, destroying people's property, looting and assaulting
innocent people. We shall protect our parents, brothers and sisters
wherever and under whatever circumstances. Zanu PF cannot and will
not be allowed to continue to enjoy overstretched moments of madness;
they must be prepared to receive as much as they dish out if this
unlawlessness continues.
The MDC Youth
Assembly bemourns the lack of respect being accorded to pupils and
students in Zimbabwe. Education is not a privilege, it is a right.
Parents should not be arrested for not paying exhobitant fees; instead,
they should be encouraged to continue sending their children to
school. It is the duty of government to educate its citizens.
The
Inclusive Government
The MDC Youth
Assembly is sick and tired of this marriage of convenience, this
fake solidarity between a cow and a donkey, Zanu PF being the donkey
under these circumstances. We are there calling for an end of this
relationship through holding free and fair elections. The MDC Youth
Assembly is ready for free and fair elections anytime and anywhere.
In fact, February 11 is too far, we would like to go for Valentine's
Day while our minds are free from this rabies infested monster called
GPA.
It must end
now and we go for elections, free and fair elections under regional
and international supervision with all electoral reforms in place.
We would also like to remind Mugabe that he is lying to himself
that he will remain the President after the GPA, he is actually
enjoying the benevolence of President Morgan Tsvangirai the true
winner of the March 2008
March elections. If anything, President Morgan Tsvangirai is
the only one who has the mandate to form a government.
The Assembly
is concerned by the continued failure by government under GPA to
arrest unprecedented levels of unemployment and poverty in general
and hereby calls for the immediate halt of the invasion of the industries,
tourist resorts by Zanu PF under the disguise of Indigenisation
and Empowerment. The MDC Youth Assembly is further worried by the
continued recruitment of soldiers and police when the Treasury does
not have enough money to pay our civil servants and we are not in
a war situation.
