Zanu PF's dark forces out to eliminate Mabhena's brother
Movement
for Democratic Change
November
03, 2010
The MDC is greatly
concerned by the continued attempts on the life of MDC National
Executive Committee member, Norman Mabhena and his family by dark
forces in Zanu PF and appeals to the police to take action as a
matter of urgency. The MDC notes with concern that Norman Mabhena
has been forced to relocate his family to a safe house as the threats
to his life and family continue to increase. The attempts on the
life of Mabhena show that Zanu PF is a party with a murderous record
on innocent people who expose their corruption and dishonesty.
Mabhena's
life is in danger after his family spurned a Zanu PF offer last
month to have the great late national hero, Welshman Mabhena interred
at the national shrine. Norman Mabhena, a member of the MDC top
decision making body as the Secretary for National healing, reconciliation
and integration, is brother to the late nationalist and fearless
fighter for Zimbabwe's independence and democracy who died
in Bulawayo last month after a long struggle with diabetes and high
blood pressure.
Before his death,
the late veteran politician told his family that he was strongly
against the idea of being buried at the National Heroes' Acre
in Harare as it was full of people of and with dubious credentials.
Welshman Mabhena, a former Matabeleland North governor, quit Zanu
PF in 2000. Since then, he lived a private life and his family was
left in shock when Zanu PF said he should be buried at the national
shrine.
The MDC condemns
attempts by Zanu PF to eliminate on of our top leaders in the party,
Norman Mabhena. The MDC, the Mabhena family and the nation will
hold Zanu PF responsible if anything happens to Norman Mabhena or
any of his family members.
Zanu PF should
leave the Mabhena family alone as they mourn the life of a celebrated
revolutionary, who fought for the liberation of this country and
stood up against Zanu PF's corruption, the traits the MDC
is fighting for to deliver real change to the people. We further
urge the professional and competent police force to live no stone
unturned in exposing and apprehending those who are persecuting
and threatening Mr Mabhena.
