MDC mourns Mabhena
Movement
for Democratic Change
October 08,
2010
The
MDC like the rest of the nation mourns the untimely death of Welshman
Mabhena, veteran nationalist and fearless fighter for independence
and democracy. Mabhena who died in Bulawayo on Tuesday after a long
struggle with diabetes and high blood pressure contributed so much
to the liberation of Zimbabwe that his work will remain etched in
the annals of history.
At its meeting in Harare the MDC National Executive
noted with shock and sadness the death of Mabhena who, in 2000 acknowledged
that Zimbabwe needed real change and abandoned forces of negation,
disruption, corruption, and violence. These same forces betrayed
Mabhena as it did with the rest of the nation in his quest to see
the full realisation of the ideals of the liberation struggle. A
group in our midst with a whole psychosis set to privatise Zimbabwe,
a position Mabhena found unattainable and unacceptable as it was
a front to our national values, our esteem and our collective dignity.
The MDC wishes to convey its sincere condolences
to Mrs Rebecca Mabhena the widow, his brother Norman and the rest
of the family. His untimely death was a great loss to the nation.
