MDC councillors granted bail

MDC councillors for Banket,
Emmanuel Chinanzvavana and Fani Tembo together with MDC activist
Givemore Hodzi have been granted bail today after four months of
detention at Chinhoyi Remand prison. The three were arrested on
trumped up charges of murdering a Zanu PF councillor in Zvimba South
in January this year.
In Mashonaland West province,
MDC Mhangura district treasurer, Yuda Banda was attacked by Zanu
PF youth on Saturday in Mhangura. He was rescued by passers-by and
was admitted at Mhangura hospital. He was discharged this afternoon.
It is alleged that political arguments arose at a beer hall in Mhangura
after which the Zanu PF youths followed Mr Yuda on his way home
and assaulted him.
Hurungwe North MDC ward
councillor for Chundu, who was also the provincial Youth Assembly
Vice Chairperson, Paddington Chavhuruma has died. He passed away
on Friday after a short illness. He was buried on Sunday in Chundu
village.
Villagers in
Charasika area of Manicaland have expressed their anger at recent
moves by the district administrator aimed at relocating them to
ARDA Transal without any compensation. The villagers, who live within
the premises of Chiadzwa have been ordered to vacate the area by
the first of June. War veteran leader Jabulani Sibanda continues
with his terror campaign in Manicaland province forcing village
heads and chiefs to convene meetings in their areas which he addresses.
Jabulani Sibanda is telling villagers that those who take part in
the Constitution-making
process and notable MDC supporters will be 'taught a lesson
worse than that of June 2008'. Villagers are living in fear
as every family as well as headmasters and teachers are being forced
to attend these meetings.
Jabulani Sibanda has
covered the greater part of the province having visited Nyanga,
Buhera North, Buhera West, Chipinge Central and Mutare South threatening
well known MDC supporters. He is accompanied by a group of purported
war veterans and Zanu PF supporters in the province. In Manicaland,
the Women parliamentary caucus has invited all women parliamentarians
to discuss the constitution making process. The same caucus is being
held in Bulawayo today.
In Matabeleland North,
Hwange Colliery has refused to renew lease agreements to two well
known MDC members occupying the company's business premises
in Hwange concession. Gladys Manatse of ward 4 and Mpi Mpofu of
ward 8 have taken Hwange colliery to court twice now after they
had been ordered to vacate the premises The company is targeting
all well known MDC business people occupying their premises and
giving them short notices to vacate from their premises.
