ZANU
PF youths disrupt MDC rally, 3 MDC supporters injured in the subsequent
home attacks
ZANU PF youths on Sunday
21 February 2010 disrupted a movement for democratic change rally
at Sanani Busisness Centre, Epworth before attacking and injuring
three MDC supporters at their homes.
According to reports
received, MDC supporters assembled at Sonani Business Centre at
1300 hours for a rally which was supposed to drum up support for
the parliament led constitution making process and to educate supporters
on the importance of the constitution. At around 1310 hours, three
double cab vehicles marked 'ZANU PF Harare province'
and carrying ZANU PF youths suspected to be members of the dreaded
'Chipangano' arrived at the venue disrupting proceedings.
The youths were allegedly singing the infoumous song 'zvikaramba
tinoita zvaJune" (If it fails we will revert to June (referring
to the post election violence)). The youths reportedly assaulted
the MDC supporters, dispersing only when police officers fired warning
shots.
Following the disruption
of the rally, the youths allegedly sponsored by ZANU PF councilor,
Ms Joanna Mawira and led by four youths only referred to as Joseph,
Tinashe, Makangira and Brian unleashed violence on MDC supporters
in their homes, seriously injuring three, Patience Ziki, Berry Zvokuomba
and Lettie Zvokuoomba.
It is alleged that the
youth regrouped at Epworth Secondary School which, is allegedly
a youth base in the area.
The three are currently
receiving treatment at a Harare hospital.
ZANU PF supporters
are reportedly going around communities claiming that the MDC intends
to include gay rights in the constitution which, according to the
political party are immoral. However, this argument defeats the
fundamental freedom of choice, which the state should respect and
uphold.
