Detained MDC supporters freed on bail
Movement for Democratic Change
February 22, 2010

A Bindura Magistrate on Monday 22 February 2010 freed 10 Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) supporters, who were arrested last week and charged with attempted murder and malicious damage to property.

The MDC supporters together with other supporters, whom the police claim are still at large were accused of torching some properties belonging to some ZANU PF supporters in Madziwa in Mashonaland Central in a retributive exercise to avenge the burning of their houses carried out by some ZANU PF supporters during the run-up to the sham 27 June 2008 presidential election.

The police claimed that the MDC supporters, who deny the charges destroyed property including household, furniture, radios, television sets, plates, pots, clothing, bicycles valued at $2 387.

But a Bindura Magistrate granted free bail to the 10 MDC supporters, who had spent four days in police custody since their arrest last Thursday.
