Anti-corruption campaign in full swing and unstoppable
Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)
January 05, 2010

The MDC wishes to assure Zimbabweans that our crusade against corruption is now in full swing and unstoppable until we clean up all sections of our society of the scourge, introduced into Zimbabwe by the Zanu-PF dictatorship and has become a part of our national culture.

The action taken by the MDC leadership and the MDC National Council shall be intensified to reclaim Zimbabwe's self-respect; a climate of accountability; and push for zero tolerance on corruption.

What has happened in Chitungwiza, South Africa, and in the UK is part of our broad anti-corruption campaign within and outside the party. As a Party of Excellence, we believe in delivering real change to the people of Zimbabwe. We believe in restoring people's dignity, security, prosperity and basic freedoms. We stand for hope for a new Zimbabwe and a new beginning.

We shall never hesitate to weed out any decaying apples in our basket of democrats. Against this background, we however find utterances by some failed opposition politicians concerning our transparent and honest bid to stamp out this dangerous practice as nothing but opportunistic publicity stunts. We have taken the lead; our plea is for others to follow our example, as always.

We are clear about the needs of the present and future and have the nation fully behind us as we transform our society from a rotten legacy of dictatorship and corruption. The people are our campus. The year 2010 shall hasten our entry into a new Zimbabwe.

We acknowledge that ours is a struggle against an entrenched political culture of the past 30yrs of non-accountability and corruption. It is inevitable that some of our cadres have fallen victim to the yesteryear practices we seek to uproot. And this is a struggle we shall win.

Together to the end, marching to a new Zimbabwe.
