Hon Bennett granted bail
Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)
October 16, 2009

MDC Treasurer-General and deputy agriculture minister designate, Senator Roy Bennett has been granted bail at the High Court despite frantic efforts by the State to invoke the notorious Section 121 to bar his bail.

The decision by the State to invoke Section 121 shows that the Attorney-General's office is being used by Zanu PF for persecuting and not prosecuting MDC officials. It vindicates our position that Bennett's case is 100 percent politics and zero percent law.

Hon Bennett's case is just but one of the several instances where national institutions such as the Attorney-general's Office have been abused by Zanu PF to achieve its political ends. It vindicates the position taken by the national executive that all outstanding issues, including the issue of Attorney-General Johannes Tomana, must be resolved urgently.

The MDC is a party of excellence. The people of Zimbabwe want hope, dignity, freedom, security and prosperity.

Together to the end, marching to a new Zimbabwe.
